Crossing the Bridges: A Health Literacy Partnership Between Weill Cornell Medicine and Brooklyn Public Library

Welcome!

Welcome to the Assisting Consumer Health Patrons LibGuide!

Background Info.: This LibGuide was created for librarians at Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) to provide resources and guidance on conducting reference interviews with patrons seeking health information.  In response to the growing need for public librarians to provide consumer health resources, librarians from Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) and the Myra Mahon Patient Resource Center conducted a workshop at the Bedford branch of Brooklyn Public Library on March 4, 2020. Due to COVID-19, the training was re-conceptualized as a LibGuide in order to share the information and resources with more BPL librarians and staff.

How to Use The Course: The course consists of: 2 videos, a Reference Interview worksheet, and resources on health literacy, consumer health information, and COVID-19. You can complete the videos and exercises at your own pace. After you finish the course work and review the resources, please take our course completion survey! Your feedback will help us improve future iterations of this program. Additionally, it's helpful to know how many librarians have viewed the LibGuide.

Course content was created by Judy Stribling, Antonio DeRosa, and Keith Mages. The LibGuide was created by Carrie Jedlicka.
