EndNote: Converting Bibliographies to EndNote format

Exporting from Sciwheel

In Sciwheel:

  • Select references
  • Select 'Copy, export, email, and other options
  • Select 'Export as..."
  • Format - RIS

 

In Endnote:

  • File - Import - File
  • Import Option: Reference Manager (RIS)

Exporting from Mendeley

In Mendeley:

  • Select references
  • File – Export
  • Choose “EndNote XML” or “Reference Manger RIS”

In EndNote:

  • File – Import – Choose File
  • Select file you’ve just created
  • Set Import Option to match your exported Mendeley file (XML or RIS)

Transitioning from RefWorks

In Refworks:

  • References - Select All
  • Click Export
  • Select an Export Format: Bibliographic Software
  • Save As - 'filename'.txt

In Endnote:

  • File - Import - File
    • Import File: 'filename'.txt
    • Import Option: Tab Delimited

Pulling bibliographies from Word into EndNote

From papers that have previously used EndNote:

  • EndNote ribbon - Export to EndNote - Export Travelling Library
  • Decide whether to make new library or add to existing (preferred)

From papers that have not previously used EndNote (created by hand, old versions of other software, etc)

  • Copy formatted bibliography
  • Paste into https://citation-finder.now.sh/
  • Choose citation format RIS
  • In EndNote:
    • File - Import - File
    • Import Option: Reference Manager (RIS)
  • NOTE: This only finds references in Medline. References out of scope (books, non-medical fields, etc) will not be found using this tool.
