Schedule and learning outcomes

This version reflects a class period of 45 minutes. A version designed for 90-minute class is available in the instruction materials download above.

Day 1   
 

Module 0 – Introduction & Pre-test

  1. Introduction to Curriculum and modules  

  1. Overview of prompt and task, rubric, and exemplar 

  1. Groups decide on celebrity  

Day 2 

 

Module 1 - Credible Information and Disease Research 

  1. Define credible information 

  1. Show proper searching and credible websites (MedlinePlus) 

  1. Locate health information from a credible source (e.g. MedlinePlus) 

  1. Work time Disease and Celebrity Research

Module 2 - 

Career Introduction 

 

  1. Research types of librarianship in groups (Jigsaw method) 

  1. Small group share out  

  1. Ask a librarian: come up with a list of student questions to be answered by working librarians. 

Day 4  
 

Module 3 - Find and Identify Credible Health Information  

  1. Define credibility in the context of health information  

  1. Evaluate the credibility of a source using the SIFT method 

Day 5  

Module 3 Work Time 

  1. Complete the evaluation of a source using SIFT for the disease and celebrity of choice 

  1. Polish other slides based on the exemplar and rubric 

Day 6 
 

Module 4 – Health Literacy and Misinformation 

  1. Define health literacy 

  1. Identify health misinformation/disinformation and recognize red flags 

  1. Find misinformation about your celebrity's disease.  

Day 7  
 

Module 4 Work Time  

  1. Fact-check the misinformation in the provided X post. 

  1. Finish finding and evaluating accurate sources for health facts about your disease.  

  1. Polish presentation based on rubric and exemplar 

Day 8 
 

  

Module 5 - Citing Credible Information Resources  

  1. Define plagiarism   

  1. State when a citation is necessary   

  1. Explain the purpose of proper citation   

  1. Differentiate between scholarly literature and popular literature 

  1. Correctly cite source

  1. Review librarian responses to student questions from DAY 1

Post-test, Presentations, and Celebration
